Ottawa takes two points from Winchester going into the last week of the season

The Ottawa Junior Canadians had a stellar performance on Saturday night, as they were hosts to the Winchester Hawks at the Earl Armstrong Arena. The Canadians walked away with the two points, and stroll into the last week of the season with a 27-14-0-1 record.

It all started in the first period, where the Canadians would find most of the offensive pressure, but fall behind 1-0 at the end of the period, where Daniel Beauchemin would net his 10th of the season on the powerplay.

In the second, the Canadians would begin to strike back. Goals from Matthew Nolet (2G) and Liam “the cap” Kelleher (7G) would make it a 2-1 game going into the third and final period of play.

The third would be physical and would see a match penalty to Lucas Filion for a check from behind 5 minutes in, and Tyler Smith (6G) would find the back of the net on the ensuing powerplay to put the home squad up 3-1 going into the last half of the third. Late in the period, Winchester would misplay a pinch by the defense at the blue, ensuing a 2 on 1 the other way, where Jack Chiarello would find Daniel Kyte (14G) who put it into the empty cage to seal the deal, 4-1.

The Canadians are back in action this coming Tuesday and Wednesday nights, as they’ll play back-to-back to end the season against Embrun at home on Tuesday, and Renfrew on the road on Wednesday.
